A European heat wave will trap air pollutants, causing air quality to deteriorate, especially in cities, a World Meteorological Organization (WMO) official warned on Friday.
“The stable, stagnant atmosphere acts as a lid that traps air pollutants, especially particulate matter,” WMO chief scientist Lorenzo Labrador said at a press briefing in Geneva.
“They lead to poor air quality and adverse health effects, especially for vulnerable people.”
