New Delhi: The young Paralympic champion Avani Lekhara continued her rich form to win her second gold medal on Saturday at the ongoing World Cup in parachuting at Chateauroux 2022 in France.

Lekhara shot 458.3 in the final R8 – 50m women’s rifle 3 positions SH1 and won gold in front of experienced Paralympic stars Veronica Vadovicova (456.6) from Slovakia and Sweden Anna Normannova (441.9). Silver was taken by Vadovičová and bronze by Normann.

The promising shooter from Rajasthan started the final slowly, but quickly returned to the beat to produce consistent shots, including more than 10 points in the last three rounds, to become the winner.

The 20-year-old Lekhara has already won the R2-10m women’s air rifle in the SH1 stand with a world record on the first day and secured India a quota for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.

Another young man who shone on this day was Rubina Francis, who won her second individual medal in the following days. Francis was satisfied with a bronze shot 213.1 in the final P2 – women’s air pistol on the 10 m SH1, when the Turkish Aysel Ozgan won the gold with a world record of 240.0.

The silver was won by Ozgan’s Turkish teammate Aysegul Pehlivanlar (236.7).
