Chess players praise the preparations for the Chennai Chess Olympiad

India is hosting the 44th Chess Olympiad starting on July 28 at the Four Points by Sheraton Mahabalipuram Resort and Convention Center in Mahabalipuram near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. As the coveted tournament begins on Thursday, teams from various countries around the world have already arrived in Mahabalipuram for the Chess Olympiad 2022. Meanwhile, the city of Chennai has been decked out and decorated for the mega event, which has left chess players awestruck.

Chess promoter David Llada took to his official Twitter account on Wednesday and posted a tweet expressing his happiness upon arriving at the venue of the Chess Olympiad. In particular, he pointed out that India has become his favorite country in the world out of a total of 61 countries he has visited so far. He also mentioned that from the moment he arrived in the country, he experienced the wonderful hospitality of the hosts.

“As of now, India is officially my favorite country in the world – out of all 61 I’ve visited. I must say that I am honored to have experienced amazing hospitality in most of the places I have visited. But the people here open their hearts to you like nowhere else,” said David Llada.

Meanwhile, David received a reply from All India Chess Federation (AICF) President Dr. Sanjay Kapoor, who said the tweet made his day. “David, your tweet just made the day of all #Indians, especially the @AICFchess team and all the volunteers currently on duty to ensure all players and visitors have an experience like yours. Welcome to the #ChessOlympiad in #India!,” said Kapoor.

Spanish chess grandmaster Francisco Vallejo Pons also took to Twitter to praise the arrangements made in Chennai for the 44th Olympics. He shared a picture of the Chess Olympiad and said: “Looks like the best playing hall at the Olympiad ever! #ChessOlympiad2022”.

German Chess Sports Director Kevin Hogy also shared details of the hospitality he received after landing in India. “Both @Schachbund teams for the @FIDE_chess #ChessOlympiad arrived at the amazing Kaldan Samudhra Palace. All Indians, hotel staff and @aicfchess gave us such a warm welcome. Thank you for this unforgettable day 1! We are very much looking forward to Round 1,” said Hogy.

British Grandmaster David Howell also expressed his thoughts on Twitter, saying: “A big welcome to Chennai! #chess #olympiad2022″. At the same time, US chess player Tatev Abrahamyan said, “I made it to Chennai! Looking forward to a great Olympics for Team USA! #ChessOlympiad2022 #ChennaiChess2022”.
