James Morrison made a remarkable run with nine birdies to take the early lead at the Catalunya Championship in Spain.

The two-time DP World Tour winner overcame a pair with eight holes from his round remaining at the PGA Catalunya Golf Stadium, but out of his next seven, he played sixth birdies and five under 67.

The Morrisons share fourth place with Haotong Li and Sebastian Heisele, while Dan Jeff Jeffther and the South African duo Oliver Bekker and Darren Fichardt seize an early advantage.

“I played really well, I just hit some bad shots at the wrong time in the beginning,” Morrison said. “It’s one of those courses that you just have to take because there are a lot of opportunities.

“I played well (in the back nine), I hit a few shots tight, kept the pace and hit the right shots at the right time. I capitulated last week and I missed the cut by one at the end, so I went home and restarted and I’m really happy. that I can move the first door. “
