More and more spectacular views are available on Google Maps

More impressive and intuitive maps

As part of the Google I / O conference, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, announced the arrival of new Google Maps features, such as the arrival of an immersive view of our environment or the question of how to find the most efficient route. and use Live View in our favorite apps.

Remember, Google Maps was designed to help people get to their destination. Since then, it has evolved into much more: it is a convenient companion when it comes to finding the perfect restaurant or getting information about a local business. Today, advances in computer vision and artificial intelligence allow Google to combine billions of street imagery and aerial imagery to create a rich digital model that wants to represent the planet. Google teams want to offer a new way to explore the world with Google Maps. With this new “surround view” feature, you can enjoy the neighborhood, landmark, restaurant or popular place and even feel like you’re there before you even get there. Whether you’re traveling to an unfamiliar place or want to discover points of interest that can’t be easily found, the spectacular view will help you make a choice of attractions before you leave. Let’s say you are planning a trip to London and want to know what the best places to visit and the best places to eat are. With a quick search, you can virtually fly over Westminster to get a close look at the surrounding area and the architecture of stunning places like Big Ben. With useful information from Google Maps, you can use the time slider to see what your neighborhood looks like at different times of the day and in different weather conditions, and where the busiest places are. Looking for a place to dine? Descend to street level to discover nearby restaurants and get useful information like crowds and traffic nearby. You can even check out the restaurants to get an idea of the atmosphere before booking. The feat of this project is that the spectacular view will work on virtually any phone or device. It will be released later this year in Los Angeles, London, New York, San Francisco and Tokyo, and other cities will be available soon.

Update on fuel-efficient routes

Google not only makes it easier to explore places, but also, in the face of rising fuel prices, displays that help us get there in a more sustainable way. Google recently unveiled fuel-saving routes in the U.S. and Canada. This option allows you to see and choose the most efficient route when looking for a route, helping you save money on gasoline. This feature has already been used to drive 86 billion miles, saving more than half a million tonnes of carbon emissions, equivalent to 100,000 cars off the road. Google plans to double that number by introducing it to other parts of the world, such as Europe.

Live: Now available in your favorite apps

Live View helps you navigate using augmented reality to show you useful arrows and directions that digitally cover your real surroundings. This feature is especially useful for navigating difficult indoor areas, such as airports, shopping malls, and train stations. Thanks to this technology, based on artificial intelligence called “global location”, Google Maps can show you where you need to go in seconds. Google Maps now makes this technology available to developers for free using the new ARCore Geospatial API. Power-sharing company Lime is testing APIs in London, Paris, Tel Aviv, Madrid, San Diego and Bordeaux to help users park their e-bikes and scooters responsibly and off the road. Telstra and Accenture use it to help sports and concert goers find venues, food stalls and toilets at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium. DOCOMO and Curiosity are developing a new game that allows you to fight virtual dragons in front of iconic Tokyo landmarks such as the Tokyo Tower. The new geospatial API is now available to ARCore developers wherever Street View is available.
