A test bench for energy innovation will be set up in New Zealand to showcase new technologies that can help reduce emissions.
New Zealand’s Future Energy Center Ara Ake has helped forge a partnership between Ecolabs – Singapore’s Nanyang University of Technology (NTU Singapore), Enterprise Singapore and the Singapore Sustainable Energy Association – and the Western Institute of Technology in Taranaki. WITT).
The project aims to successfully demonstrate low-emission energy innovations – from Singapore and New Zealand – to help decarbonise Aotearoa New Zealand.
Ara Ake CEO, dr. Cristiano Marantes says the project emphasizes the importance of global cooperation for the success of New Zealand’s decarbonisation path.

Ecolabs has proven successful in developing and installing test benches throughout the Asia-Pacific region, and Ara Ake is pleased to have established a demonstration site in New Zealand and is coordinating these national initiatives.

WITT is one of 17 Te Puhenga subsidiaries linking a national network of integrated learning that helps learners, employers and communities acquire the skills, knowledge and competencies that Aotearoa New Zealand needs now and in the future.
Te Pūkenga is developing a sustainability strategy with a mission to mainstream sustainability in all network subsidiaries, including technology and polytechnic institutes (ITPs) and work-based learning (WBL). This WITT test system project is an opportunity that could be replicated in many institutes, and it contributes greatly to their sustainability goals.
WITT CEO John Snook says the test site project will play a key role in achieving WITT’s carbon neutrality goal by 2025, while supporting Taranaki as an energy innovation hub.
“As WITT aims to create the Center of Excellence for Energy (ECoE), it is a great opportunity to demonstrate real-world emissions-reducing energy innovations that will clearly improve WITT’s carbon footprint and meet the challenge of climate change.
