Ukraine withdrew from the World Junior Hockey Championship Hockey news

LAUSANNE: Ukraine, hard hit by the invasion of Russia, withdrew from the Women’s Junior Hockey World Championships on Tuesday, which will take place in Potchefstrom in South Africa from April 1 to 12.
“This is, of course, a very sad situation, first and foremost for all team members, especially players, and I would like to reaffirm, on behalf of FIH, our full solidarity with the Ukrainian hockey community at this terrible time,” the International Director-General said in a statement. Hockey Federation (FIH) Thierry Weil.

“I would also like to express our sincere thanks to the Hockey Union of Poland and the Netherlands, as well as the Dutch club HV Victoria, for their tremendous efforts in providing team support in recent weeks.”
“We wish everyone within the Ukrainian hockey community a lot of strength. We have ideas with them. And we hope that peace will be restored as soon as possible,” he added.
FIH further announced that Ukraine will not be replaced, which means that the event will be played with 15 teams, with Group B consisting of South Africa, England and Ireland. Ukraine’s matches will be canceled.
